What I'm telling you is about a person.
Who invited me to carry out a marriage contract ('aqd) for his daughter.
And when the sermon (khutbah) ended which is
"Verily all praise is for Allaah, we praise Him and seek His aid" etc.
I told the guardian (wali) of the woman:
Marry her to him!
And he said: I give you my daughter (so and so) for marriage upon a dowry (mahar) equivalent to one Riyaal.
Did you hear the speech or not? Did you hear?
Yes.
Equivalent to a Riyaal.
Then I told him that is wrong!
The dowry (mahar) is not the Riyaal that is in your hand right now.
The dowry (mahar) is the one that you have sent upon request
such as gold and so on.
Then he sworn (by Allah) to me that he won't take anything else than this Riyaal.
Then he said: I'm will not marry off my daughter to money but rather marry her to a man.
And if it wasn't for the reason that it's haram (to give her away without a gift) then I would've given her away without a gift.
Such men are encouraging (others).
And I don't think there'r many similar to him.
