Purification Of The Soul

The human being is essentially made of three components, the body, the mind and the soul. In Islam the soul is an extremely important component and is given a lot of attention by those learned in the sacred sciences.

The soul is something that the devout Muslim seeks to reform, purify and keep free from harmful diseases in the same way one would protect oneself from the ailments of the body.

In this life long struggle with ones own soul we go through various stages of highs and lows. The world we live in and the temptations of our surroundings can play havoc with us and we need to be always alert to protect ourselves from letting that call to sin overcome us. In addition to this is the traps of Satan, the avowed enemy to all has to be prevailed over as well. To know that it is the pure heart that gains admission to Paradise is enough to show the importance of this subject.
The Purification Of The Soul has become a science for Islamic scholars and the topic has been discussed at length. As with the physical world physicians have sought to find cures to the body and similarly the experts in the matters of the heart have given cures to the maladies of the heart as well.
The Prophet said, "Allah did not send down a disease from the sky except that he sent its cure with it so seek medical treatment worshippers of Allah"
The scholars have said that it is obligatory to seek treatment for the diseases of the heart and recommended for diseases of the body!
