ABOUT THE SPEAKER -

Abu usamah was born in New Jersey in 1964. He embraced Islam in 1986 and went onto studying in the Islamic University of Madina for eight years where he graduated from the College of Daʾwah and Usool-ad-Din.
sheikh abu usamah has been very active in daʾwah since the day he embraced Islam. He has been the Imam of various mosques in the United States and in the United Kingdom. His zeal and eagerness in conveying the true message of Islam has lead him to many parts of the world, delivering lectures and seminars, as well as translating for many scholars and duʾaat from the Arab world.
Abu Usamah has been blessed in studying with some of the greatest scholars of our time, to name a few, Shaikh Umar Fulaatah at the Rawdah of the Prophets Mosque, Shaikh Muhammad ʾAtiyyah Saalim (author of Tafsir ʾAdwaa ul-Bayaanʾ), Shaikh Abdullah Muhammad al-Ghunaymaan, Shaikh Muhammad al-Jaami, Shaikh Saalih al-Fawzaan and many more. He was also very fortunate to have spent two summers in intensive study under Shaikh Ibn Baaz and Shaikh Ibn Uthaymin.

ABOUT MOHAMMADI MASJID -

The Mohammadi Masjid and Madrassah Salafiyyah was first established in 1985 in a corner-terraced house on 49 Couchman Road by the Markazi Jamiat Ahlul Hadeeth. The capacity of maximum worshippers was only 50 at this point. Alhamdulillah (all praise is for Allah) after demolition of houses on the road, the Mohammadi Masjid was moved to 24-36 Hartopp Road in 1998 as a purpose-built Masjid, by the Birmingham City Council in exchange for the initial project. Currently, the masjid can hold a maximum capacity of 500 male and female worshippers.
At this point, the 5 daily prayers were taking place in jamaaʾah (congregation) as well as weekday evening classes, in which children aged 5-12 could learn to recite and memorise the Qurʾan. The masjid would also cater for a weekend dars (lecture).
Since 1998 the Masjid has grown in its worshippers and its services. Due to the growing demand of locals the Jumuʾah (Friday) prayer, Taraaweeh prayers in Ramadhan, ʾEid prayers, funeral prayers and arrangements and regular English and Urdu lectures also take place here at Mohammadi Masjid.

Linguistically Bidʾah (innovation) means ʾa newly invented matterʾ.
The Shareeʾah definition of Bidʾah is: ʾʾA newly invented way [beliefs or action] in the religion, in imitation of the Shareeʾah (prescribed Law), by which nearness to Allaah is sought, [but] not being supported by any authentic proof - neither in its foundations, nor in the manner in which it is performed.ʾʾ Al-Iʾtisaam of ash-Shaatibee (1/37).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated repeatedly that: ʾʾEvery newly-invented thing is a bidʾah (innovation), every bidʾah is a going astray, and every going astray will be in the Fire.ʾʾ (Reported by al-Nisaaʾi in al-Sunan, Salaat al-ʾEedayn, Baab kayfa al-Khutbah). Reports with the same meaning were narrated via Jaabir (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ahmad, via al-ʾIrbaad ibn Saariyah by Abu Dawud and via Ibn Masʾood (may Allaah be pleased with him) by Ibn Maajah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say, when beginning a khutbah (sermon): ʾʾ... The best of speech is the Book of Allaah and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The worst of things are those which are newly-invented, and every innovation is a going astray...ʾʾ (reported by Muslim, no. 867)

If every bidʾah is a going astray, how can some people then say that there is such a thing in Islam as ʾʾbidʾah hasanahʾʾ? By Allaah, this is an obvious contradiction of the statement and warning of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that whoever innovates something new in the deen (religion) will have his deed rejected, and Allaah will not accept it, as is stated in the hadeeth narrated by ʾAaʾishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), who said: ʾʾThe Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ʾWhoever innovates something in this matter of ours that is not a part of it will have it rejected.ʾʾʾ (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Fath al-Baari, no. 2697). How can anybody then say that bidʾah is acceptable and it is permitted to follow it?

When a person innovates something and adds to the deen something that does not belong to it, he is implying a number of bad things, each worse than the last, for example:
That the religion is lacking, that Allaah did not complete and perfect it, and that there is room for improvement. This clearly contradicts the statement in the Qurʾaan (interpretation of the meaning): ʾʾ... This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion...ʾʾ [al-Maaʾidah 5:3]

1. That the religion remained imperfect from the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) until the time when this innovator came along and completed it with his own ideas.
2. That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was ʾʾguiltyʾʾ of either of two things: either he was ignorant of this ʾʾgood innovation,ʾʾ or he knew about it but concealed it, thus letting his ummah down by not conveying it. That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), his Companions and the righteous salaf (early generations) missed out on the reward of this ʾʾgood innovationʾʾ - until this innovator came along and earned it for himself, despite the fact that he should say to himself, ʾʾIf it was truly good, they would have been the first to do it.ʾʾ

Opening the door to bidʾah leads to changing the deen (religion) and opens the way for personal whims and opinions, because every innovator implies that what he is introducing is something good.
Following bidʾah leads to the cancelling out of sunnah practices and the ways of the first three generations of Islaam in which the Prophet Muhammad (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) described as being the best generations of Muslims. The first, the Prophet (Sallalaahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and his Sahaabah (companions). The second, the Taabiʾeen (the followers of the companions). The third, the Tabaaʾat-Taabiʾeen (the followers of the followers of the companions).
