Sayyidul-Istighfaar (The best du’aa for asking Allaah’s Forgiveness)
‘O Allaah, You are my Lord, there is no God but You, You created me and I am your servant and I abide to your covenant and promise as best as I can, I take refuge in you from the evil of which I committed. I acknowledge your favour upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily no one can forgive sin except you.’
Then Muhammad continued “If person recites this during the day with strong faith in it and dies on the same day before the sunset, he will be among the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with strong faith in it and dies before sunrise he will be among the people of Paradise.”
This is the du’aa our teacher recommended to us during the lecture: How to Memorise!
Below is line by line to aid in memorizing.
Remember when you stop on a word to silence the last letter (read it with sukoon – no harakah).
Allahumma Anta Rabbi, la ilaha illa Ant(a).
Oh Allaah You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship but You.
khalaqtani wa ana `abduk (a).
You created me and I am Your slave.
wa ana `ala `ahdika wa wa`dika mastata`t (u).
I keep Your covenant, and my pledge to You so far as I am able.
a`udhu bika min sharri ma sana`t(u),
I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done.
abu’u laka bini`matika `alayya, wa abu’u bidhanbi(y).
I admit to Your blessings upon me, and I admit to my misdeeds.
faghfir li, fa innahu la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa Ant(a).
Forgive me, For there is none who may forgive sins but You.
